About Covenant House

Covenant House is the largest privately funded  NON PROFIT  agency in the Americas providing shelter, food, immediate crisis care, and an array of other services to  HOMELESS TEENS  and  RUNWAY YOUTH.   In addition to basic needs, Covenant House provides a continuum of care to homeless youth KIDS TO AGE 21,    designed to transition them into an independent adulthood free from the risk of future homelessness. Covenant House offers services including  HEALTHCARE,  educational support/GED  preparation/college scholarships, job readiness and skills training programs, DRUG ABUSE treatment and prevention programs, legal services, mental health services, mother/child programs, transitional living programs, street outreach and aftercare.

Our work would be much easier if the issues our kids faced were able to be solved with a hot meal, warm shower, and clean bed. In reality, there is a wide range of deep-seated psychological, physical, and economic reasons for youth homelessness.

To break the cycle of chronic adult homelessness and bridge the gap of support in the lives of our youth, Covenant House has developed three core services known as our Continuum of Care: Street Outreach, Crisis Care, and Rights of Passage.

These core services are comprised of a wide array of in-house training programs, including healthcare, educational support, GED preparation, job readiness and skills training, drug abuse treatment and prevention, legal services, mental health services, the Mother/Child program, life skills training, and aftercare. These programs are designed to provide our youth with a holistic approach to leaving the streets and achieving independence.

Every year, NINELINE in the U.S. and Acercatel in Mexico promptly respond to tens of thousands of crisis calls from frightened youth – and many of the caring adults in their lives.

More Than Just a Homeless Shelter

Covenant House is not your ordinary charity organization. It is a leading advocate on behalf of homeless youth – those who can't speak up for themselves at local, state, national, and international levels of government. We are a member of the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Board of Directors of UNICEF and have a prominent role in The Campaign for U.S. Ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

Our Vision to Help Homeless Kids

Our job is to protect the rights of young people ... to fight for these rights ... to speak for those who have no voice of their own.

Covenant House doesn't forget about all the kids who are no longer here because no one cared – we hold their memory in our hearts while moving forward in our efforts to help all the scared and lonely kids who are still out there waiting.

Homeless kids have rights. They have the right to a home ... the right to food ... the right to guidance and an education … the right to be free from sexual, emotional, or physical abuse ... and the right to be free from exploitation. These kids have the right to be safe and – most important – to be loved.

We Are Governed by Five Basic Principles

Immediacy

Homeless kids come to Covenant House in crisis. Immediately and without question, we meet their basic human needs – a nourishing meal, a shower, clean clothes, medical attention, and a safe place away from the dangers of the street.

Sanctuary

Homeless kids arriving at our door are often frightened and mistrustful. Young men and women can grow only when they feel safe and secure – Covenant House protects them from the perils of the street and offers that important sense of security.

Value Communication

Lying, cheating, and stealing are common survival tools on the street. Covenant House teaches by example that caring relationships are based on trust, respect, and honesty.

Structure

Homeless kids never know how they will get their next meal or where they will sleep. Covenant House provides the stability and structure necessary to build a positive future.

Choice

Young people often feel powerless to control their lives and fall into a self-defeating cycle of failure. Covenant House fosters confidence, encouraging young people to believe in themselves and make smart choices for their lives.

Covenant House is dedicated to serving all God's children with absolute respect and unconditional love ... to help suffering homeless kids ... and to protect and safeguard all children in need.
